Elon’s tesla cybertruck 2023 q3 delivery event target miss

  • by

The quarter ended without a formal announcement of the event’s date, but anticipation is growing.

Unfortunately for Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, the company was unable to schedule a Cybertruck delivery event for the third quarter of 2023. In the April earnings call, Musk remarked, “We’re anticipating having [a] delivery event, a great delivery event probably in Q3.” The Cybertruck handover, he said later in the call, “will hopefully be around the end of Q3 this year.”

Though Musk’s statements come off more as a target than an express commitment, this is the latest setback in the company’s introduction of the Cybertruck, which was initially scheduled to begin production in 2021. Since then, hundreds of thousands of customers have placed deposits of around $100, which are fully refunded upon return of the vehicle. The Wall Street Journal reported that over 500,000 people have placed a reservation for the truck by 2020, and more recent estimates have put that number closer to 2 million.

Even if no delivery occurred throughout the quarter, there are growing indications that something is about to happen. Electrek revealed just last week that Tesla workers have been getting launch event clothing, and since the first Cybertruck was manufactured in July at Giga, Texas, a growing number of Cybertrucks have been observed on public roadways.

Many people believe that the truck’s distinctive form and construction—including the angular stainless steel and its massive single-wipe blade—are to blame for the lengthy development process. As a result of the setbacks, Tesla has had to rely more heavily on its aging product line to spur sales, and the Cybertruck’s price is likely to wind up being affected by inflation as a result. It was previously reported that the starting pricing for this truck would be $39,900.

The third quarter global sales numbers for Tesla will be released later today. The business may take this as an opportunity to reveal a new delivery date.
